Sunset at Far Rockaway

Last day at work, one final commuting trip back home from Far Rockaway. The sunset and ocean views are rather spectacular. I will miss the section across Jamaica Bay. I'd often see the most wonderful and diverse collection of birds. I'd even see one particular redtail hawk looking east over the bay in the narrow section on Broad Channel.

TV Head

CNBC came out to a home in Queens. The camera crew was out with us on Monday but didn't air the footage until a live feed on Tuesday. They caught the back on my head while we set up the blower door for home leakage testing. They take more than an hour of footage and pick about 30 seconds. Funny how my head got in there. I do like helping the folks and wish we could do more. It's a simple process that really helps elderly and low income folks just keep warm without going broke. Too bad they used the homeowner clip of saying she'd use the savings to paint. Most of our clients just need the heating to work and can't afford basic necessities so their savings go to food and medical bills. Ah well, can't control the press or pick the client response. We've had people cry with thanks when we show up trying to help. Very moving.

Another water quote!

I interviewed for a water piece way back in July and forgot about it. Just giving out simple tips to save water. Well, the article is now published and Jen Miller was kind enough to quote me and some of my work. Yeah! I love these edible magazines. Turns out a co-worker, Tim, went to the launch party for the first publication of edibleManhattan. EDF has their Seafood Selector card insert.

I'm on TV ...

... for about 5 seconds!

Yep, my tiny interview about the wastefulness of overusing air conditioning actually aired this morning at 7:40 am on the Today Show. I actually got up in time to watch. Yikes, what is up with my eyebrows? Well, hopefully people get the waste message I was trying to make. Yeah, it was fun and one of the more enjoyable parts of my job.
