Jean Day1

Staten Island, World Trade Center, Canal Street and North

My niece Jean came to visit NYC for the first time. Picked her up at Grand Central Station, had lunch with her and her family friends from Bedford Hills. We ate at the classic Oyster Bar in Grand Central - very historic with the domed ceilings in brick and cavernous feel. We headed down to the southern tip of Manhattan for the Staten Island Ferry ride which gives great views of Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty but is was windy and cold. Walked up to World Trade Center, then a jaunt up to Canal Street. I think Jean loved the strangely different way of shopping out of the stalls along the street. She did find a white leather bag she loved but I did the bartering for her; she's still not comfy with that yet. Then it was up through Chinatown for dinner and Little Italy for gelato. We stopped by the Empire State Building but it was too crowded. Luckily Macy's was open so we popped in to take pictures of all the flowers for the garden show and Jean checked out the wooden escalators and junior clothing. Headed up through Times Square and Columbus Circle to see the lights of NYC. Good first day :)

Great photo against the water. You look like you are having fun -- it must be cold? Melz and Jean have the exact same two front teeth. Amazing! You could swap them out with each other. Beautiful smiles -- great pic!
