'ino

Headed down Bedford Street with Jeremy to a destination unknown. We arrived at 'ino, a very small, cute cafe - bar to the right, on the left about 6 tables for two and just enough room for a supermodel to pass down the center. We were there to try the truffled egg toast (borrowed link to another blogger's picture).

While I loved the runiness of the egg yolk and the fabulous melty tang of the cheese, which I believe was Gruyere, I was not impressed at the very hard and very dry edge parts of the toast. Perhaps this is traditional as to give something sturdy to cut and dip into the gooey center. The asparagus and balck pepper were well balanced in spice and green, crunchy zing to cut the buttery fat of the egg & cheese. Truffle oil essence was barely there. While I like more of the earthy floavor, I can understand where most palates woudln't want too much of it in their dish, still I think it should at least leave the tastebuds wondering what special ingedient was pulling this all together. Our capuccinos were fabulous, mine normal, his dry.

When arriving, the only other people there were two Australian gentleman who were quickly joined by a woman with the most adorable baby swaddled in a cream knit hat. I swear the family looked like Boden catalogue models. The waitress was precise and informative and had some of the best tatoos on her inner forearm I've ever seen. A mob of hipster late-twenty-somethings came in as we were leaving. It only took about 5 of them to make the place feel over-crowded. Thank god for weekdays off! I'd hate to stop over on the weekend.
