Alias

Brunch with L and J on the Lower East Side (LES). I've done Prune and Public so many times, I wanted to try a new place. I chose Alias. They have an emphasis on southern breakfast stuff. J went with the bland, boring but predictably good poached eggs with sides of stuff like biscuits and bacon. I went with teh biscuits and gravy - looks gray but tastes great and they gave me ample amounts of gravy so I was never left with dry biscuit. That's a good thing given that the biscuits were some strange healthy variety using a whole wheat flour? Well, they looked like they were made from a whole grain and they were dense, not flaky or crumbly which is more typical southern fare. L had the huevos rancheros which looked good with festive colors covering the plate. I personally never order Mexican food north of the Texas panhandle and east of the Mississippi, heck, maybe not even east of Houston. We also got the corn meal waffles with apply compote to share - yum but still too healthy - I need more butter. Good comfy food. Left feeling full and happy.
