Idiot with a Book Deal

Holly Fretwell
should fret a lot more

My friend Isabelle called to tell me about a new children's book on display at Barnes & Noble. A policy wonk at a conservative land-grabbing organization charading as an environmental organization has written a children's book on why kids shouldn't worry about climate change. Of course she has many, many, many factual errors and her science is all wrong. The saddest thing is that she encourages kids not to go into climate science or even ecological business fields but instead solve other problems like Aids and HIV. I really cannot comprehend how she can discourage children from following their passions, using critical thought, to solve the challenges we face. And as a public health scientist and engineer, I find the best solutions come from exploring the many intersections of scientific disciplines - it doesn't have to be one solution vs. another. I wonder why she wrote such factually inaccurate nonsense? Perhaps we should look into who is paying her?
Rumor has it that her book was back by the industry-backed FOX idiot Steven Milloy, a paid shill for the tobacco industry and big energy companies. The writer has also authored such gems like "State Parks - Untapped Natural Wealth" while working for a group that gets backing from polluting industries. While claiming to want to use market forces to solve environmental problems, PERC truly seeks to gobble-up public resources for private ownership - the wealthy get wealthier. They also seek to destroy environmental regulations (Endangered Species Act, Clean Air Act) that limit such rape-and-pillage actions. Evil masquerading as green eco-entrepreneurs.
So, inspired by Isabelle, please go complain about this book to your book store if they carry it or write a review (Barnes and Noble seems to not be publishing any negative review, I've checked with three friends and none of us have seen our reviews posted). Propaganda pretending to be science is horrid ... pretending to be a children's book is unconscionable.
