Oceans Alive!
We have some great folks at EDF in our oceans program so when I started watching the PBS and National Geographic series Strange Days on Planet Earth I was deeply engrossed in there back-to-back episodes Dangerous Catch and Dirty Secrets. Wow! Cool stuff from crazy guys with fish farming balls floating out at sea and a sailor who started tracking the HUGE plastic drift out in the Pacific that's twice the size of Texas now! And I still read from idiots that plastic bags are good. Nimrods.
So ditch that Chilean sea bass (which is actually Patagonia toothfish), tuna with a side of mercury, and cheap Indonesia shrimp at your local box store. Enjoy wild Alaska salmon and halibut (they use good catch limits and management), and go buy local Gulf-farmed shrimp. Download our seafood selector card. And check out Tim F. on NPR. Yeah for smart seafood. Now if I could just find that special guy who doesn't mind my anchovy breath.
