Dawson Isla 10
Just when I thought all the stories about Chile, Allende, and the aftermath. This film moves the action to a concentration camp of sorts on an island that seems to be in constant winter. Various government supporters and cabinet members who supported Allende are sent there to do what? Die? Be used as pawns in diplomatic games? Not really sure. I never felt connected with any of the individuals or the group as a whole. Nostalgic pictures of Allende and re-enactments didn't work for me. Family separated didn't either. It all just seemed flat and unfocused. I think trying to tell too many people's storied distracted from a core heart for the script. I was just left watching the movements. But Ted Kennedy comes out heroic even if the film rightfully questions the U.S. involvement with Pinochet. History - it's a had thing to capture and even harder to have people care about without some dramatic center. Better luck next time, Chile; this isn't Oscar worthy.
