Moomin and Midsummer Madness
Crazy, absurdist stop-motion animation from those loopy, and probably high, Finish folks. A family of hippos seems to be living on a tropical island and they like to keep their jewelry in the pond. The volcano explodes which inexplicable causes the island to flood - not a tsunami but a rise of water I don't completely understand geologically but this is not a place of logic if the hippos are living there and these annoying elf people keep popping in to stay, as if relatives. So their home floods, they find a floating stage and make that home, put on some play, loose their kids in tree hammocks, the police lock them up, they trick a woman into unlocking them, all this sort of leads to a return home but what a frickin' trip, and not in a good, mellow, laser show wasy, more like a bad acid trip. Albino tropic hippos. I just will never get over that. Oh, and did I mention it is really, really long .... 75 minutes that feels like you were Rip van Winkle long? I just kept wanting to toss those little felt balls into the dryer and make some lint. Maybe then I couls start a fire to keep myself warm and awake.
